Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson Says Trump Fears Accountability

Michigan Democratic gubernatorial nominee and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson asserted on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is attempting to disrupt the electoral process because he fears public accountability. Speaking on MS NOW’s “The Weeknight,” Benson addressed ongoing legal challenges and election preparation efforts in her state, emphasizing that local officials have spent years preparing for various logistical scenarios.
According to Benson, the state’s legal framework remains robust regarding election defense and protection. She noted that Michigan’s 1,500 local clerks have actively engaged in scenario planning to handle multiple contingencies, including what she described as frivolous lawsuits, an environment with which state officials are already familiar.
Benson argued that the underlying motivation of these legal and political tactics extends beyond mere litigation. She stated that the strategies are specifically designed to create chaos, confusion, and doubt among voters regarding the reliability of their ballots and whether individual votes will actually be counted.
Despite these maneuvers, Benson maintained that state facts consistently demonstrate that Michigan elections remain secure, reliable, and accurate. She reassured voters that regardless of their chosen voting method, their ballots would count and be heard.
Benson urged citizens to look past disruption strategies and exercise their voting power, framing the upcoming election as a direct opportunity to hold the administration accountable. She concluded that voters are intelligent enough to recognize the truth, asserting that public authority ultimately outweighs the influence of those currently in power.
