Ethics Policy
Ethics Policy
This policy describes the ethical principles MISRYOUM aims to apply in reporting, editing, publishing and interacting with readers and sources.
Accuracy before speed
Speed matters in digital publishing, but it should not replace verification. We aim to confirm names, dates, locations, numbers and quotations, and to label uncertainty when evidence is incomplete.
Independence and conflicts
Staff and contributors should avoid allowing personal, political, financial or other interests to distort coverage. Material conflicts should be disclosed to the editor and managed, including through recusal where appropriate. Gifts, favours or benefits must not be allowed to purchase favourable coverage.
Sources and confidentiality
Sources should be treated honestly and respectfully. Confidentiality commitments should be made carefully and only when justified. Information supplied off the record should be handled according to the terms agreed before it was shared, subject to applicable law and overriding safety considerations.
Privacy, dignity and harm
We consider the public interest in publishing personal details, images and allegations, and seek to avoid unnecessary harm. Extra care is needed when reporting on children, victims, vulnerable people or individuals facing credible threats. Public curiosity alone is not always a sufficient reason to publish sensitive information.
Images, quotations and attribution
Visual material and quotations should not be altered or presented in ways that materially mislead. We aim to respect copyright, attribute sources and obtain permission where required.
AI and digital integrity
AI-assisted material must be checked for factual accuracy and potential bias. We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotes, fake evidence or synthetic depictions presented as authentic documentation. Significant limitations should be disclosed when necessary for readers to understand the material.
Complaints and accountability
Concerns about conduct or accuracy may be sent to wire@misryoum.com. We aim to assess concerns fairly and make appropriate corrections or changes when warranted.
