Inside Emmy-Winning Star Hannah Waddingham’s Relationship With Spinal Surgeon Nick Beresford-Cleary

Emmy-winning actress and singer Hannah Waddingham has captured widespread attention both on-screen and off, maintaining a busy schedule with major television and film projects while stepping out publicly with her partner, consultant spine surgeon Nick Beresford-Cleary.

Waddingham, 52, has enjoyed a prominent career trajectory, starring in major television productions including season four of Ted Lasso and Prime Video’s adventure series Ride or Die. Her upcoming slate includes roles alongside Guy Pearce in the crime-thriller Mr. Sunny Sky and the big-budget action comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike. Beyond her celebrated performances in series like Game of Thrones and Ted Lasso, public interest has increasingly turned toward her personal life.

Her partner, Beresford-Cleary, is a specialist medical professional whose practice includes hospitals such as the Princess Grace Hospital in London, according to his profile with Grosvenor Orthopaedic Partners. His clinical expertise spans complex spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, radiculopathy, back pain, sciatica, myelopathy, spondylolisthesis, spinal trauma, oncology, and deformity. Beresford-Cleary’s educational background includes studying Mechanical Engineering at University College London before earning a degree in Medicine from Edinburgh University. He subsequently completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Oxford, finishing that training phase in 2019.

The couple made their official public debut in March of this year at the Cheltenham Festival. Observers at the horse-racing event spotted the pair walking hand-in-hand, with Waddingham wearing a plaid suit and Beresford-Cleary dressed in a patterned plaid blazer. Witnesses reported that the couple appeared affectionate on the balcony of the Holland Cooper suite, where they watched races and shared a kiss after observing a performance by illusionist David Blaine. During the magic trick, a card chosen matched Waddingham’s, prompting her to remark playfully about having a connection.

Opening up about returning to dating after a prolonged period focused on her career and family, Waddingham shared details with women’s lifestyle publications earlier this year. She explained that it took eight years before she felt she had the mental and emotional space for a new relationship, having previously concentrated on raising her daughter and grounding herself professionally. Describing her readiness to re-engage with romance, she characterized the relationship as very lovely and emphasized that the foundation of her contentment stems from being happy and strong in herself.

Prior to her relationship with Beresford-Cleary, Waddingham was in an eight-year relationship with Italian businessman Gianluca Cugnetto, with whom she shares a daughter, Kitty, born in 2014. Discussing the realities of balancing single motherhood and an intensive acting career in past interviews, Waddingham noted the physical demands of parenting while maintaining a high-profile career, while also highlighting that she and Cugnetto remain on good terms for the sake of their daughter.
