Gordon Knight, Father of ‘Little People, Big World’ Star Amy Roloff, Dies at 97

Gordon Knight, the father of television personality Amy Roloff known for his appearances on the reality series Little People, Big World, has died at the age of 97.

News of his death was shared publicly by his grandson, Jacob Roloff, through a social media post on Tuesday, October 27. Jacob Roloff, 29, revealed that his grandfather passed away three weeks prior on October 5. In the tribute, which included photographs of Knight, Jacob noted that he had not yet fully processed the loss.

Amy Roloff, 64, expressed her sorrow in the comments section of the post, reflecting on shared memories and expressing a specific regret about not organizing visits to her parents more frequently when her children were young. She shares Jacob alongside siblings Jeremy, Zachary, and Molly with her ex-husband, Matt Roloff. She also mentioned her gratitude for adult visits with her children and voiced hope that they retained fond memories.

Jacob Roloff recalled childhood journeys to Michigan to visit his grandparents, describing Knight as initially intimidating before revealing a softer side with smiles and winks. He shared memories of activities organized by his grandfather, including crafting walking sticks for the grandchildren, canoeing, and taking them fishing on the only two occasions he ever went.

According to his obituary, Knight spent 30 years working as a civil and structural engineer for the Ford Motor Company and made occasional guest appearances on the family’s TLC television program. Family members noted his longevity and active lifestyle late into his life; Jacob Roloff observed that his grandfather was still cleaning muzzleloader firearms and driving a Corvette four months prior to his passing. Knight also spent time with his four-year-old great-grandson, Mateo, the son of Jacob and Isabel Rock.

In a previous social media post from 2024, Amy Roloff had emphasized the importance of familial bonds, writing that she cherished every moment with her father and advising others not to let moments pass by.
