DoorDash Reportedly in Advanced Negotiations to Acquire Instacart in $17 Billion Deal

Food delivery giant DoorDash is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire grocery delivery platform Instacart in a transaction that could value the target company at roughly $17 billion. An agreement between the two firms could be reached as early as this week, though insiders cautioned that the talks remain ongoing and there is no definitive guarantee that an agreement will be finalized.
Following the public report of the negotiations, investors adjusted their positions, sending shares of the two companies in opposite directions during Monday trading. Instacart stock climbed approximately 8 percent, while DoorDash shares dropped roughly 6 percent. Prior to the emergence of acquisition reports, Instacart held a valuation of approximately $13 billion, whereas DoorDash carries a market capitalization of about $73 billion.
Should the transaction successfully close, the acquisition would significantly strengthen DoorDash’s presence in the competitive grocery delivery sector as the company continues to diversify its business model beyond traditional restaurant meal delivery. Instacart previously explored the possibility of a company sale in 2021. In the years since, competition within the online grocery delivery market has intensified sharply as major retail competitors such as Walmart and Amazon continue to expand their digital grocery offerings and fulfillment networks.
A potential deal for Instacart would follow a series of international and domestic acquisitions executed by DoorDash over recent years. Approximately one year ago, DoorDash completed its acquisition of British food delivery firm Deliveroo following court approval in 2025, an agreement that broadened DoorDash’s operational footprint across multiple international markets. Prior to that, DoorDash completed an all-stock acquisition of Finnish delivery company Wolt in 2022, a transaction that expanded the combined company’s geographic reach to 27 countries at the time of completion.

Representatives for both DoorDash and Instacart could not be reached immediately for comment regarding the reported acquisition talks.
