ChatGPT Forecasts Bitcoin Recovery to Record High by Late 2027
Bitcoin trades near $80,626, sitting approximately 36% below its all-time high of $126,080 set on October 6, 2025. According to AI projections, October 2027 stands out as the most probable period for the cryptocurrency to close above its prior record peak, requiring a 56.4% gain from current levels.
ChatGPT estimates an 8% chance of Bitcoin hitting a new record by December 31, 2026, but that probability increases to 60% by the end of 2027. The April 2028 halving event raises the projected likelihood to 72%. However, the model cautions that supply tightening from the halving cannot independently create buyers or guarantee sustained demand.
To achieve a $126,000 valuation, Bitcoin requires a market capitalization of roughly $2.53 trillion, based on a circulating supply of approximately 20.1 million coins. With Bitcoin approaching its hard cap of 21 million, the required market cap to match past price milestones will exceed figures seen during the October 2025 peak. Market conditions in 2026 reflect a slower trajectory compared to previous bull runs, with crypto investor Arthur Hayes noting on The Pomp Podcast in August 2026 that the prior peak was barely double the previous cycle’s high. Bitcoin dropped to a one-year low of $58,566 on June 30, 2026, before posting a 28.4% recovery over a subsequent 90-day window.
Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the U.S. have accumulated about $57.6 billion in cumulative net inflows and hold approximately $105 billion in total assets. Data from Glassnode indicates that a net outflow of $292 million occurred in the 30 days leading up to October 26, marking the first monthly net outflow since July. Flows have since turned volatile, featuring a $137 million influx on October 28 following a $635 million outflow on October 22. Sustained inflows could accelerate the projected timeline to June 2027, though single-session gains do not guarantee a definitive trend reversal.
Corporate strategies within the sector show varying approaches. Strategy Inc. has paused its Bitcoin purchases to fund a $205 million preferred stock buyback, whereas Strive added 6,182 BTC valued at roughly $498 million. Franklin Templeton introduced new funds, though internal limits capping Bitcoin weightings at 5% may constrain their market impact.
Macroeconomic factors also shape the outlook. On October 28, Federal Reserve policymakers maintained the benchmark interest rate between 3.75% and 4%, though two officials dissented in favor of a rate hike. Higher interest rates typically attract capital toward cash and fixed-income assets, potentially pulling liquidity away from non-yielding assets like Bitcoin. The 10-year Treasury yield eased to 4.99% on October 27 from 5.31% on October 5. ChatGPT projects a year-end Bitcoin target of $88,000, assuming a cautious market posture while the central bank maintains a hawkish stance.
Technically, Bitcoin must clear its 20-day and 50-day moving averages at $81,854 and $81,896, respectively, representing a gain of just over 1.5%. A close above the September 21 high of $86,597, supported by steady ETF inflows, would bring mid-2027 recovery projections into focus. Conversely, a decline below the 200-day average near $73,071 would indicate broader downside risk.
