Major Retailers Launch Early Black Friday Sales and Holiday Events
Major U.S. retailers are rolling out holiday discount schedules well ahead of traditional timelines, providing consumers with opportunities to stretch budgets and secure gifts early. With affordability concerns weighing on shoppers, companies including Costco, Target, and Walmart are deploying multi-tier promotional calendars spanning November and December.
Costco has structured its holiday savings around five distinct promotional windows. The warehouse club’s initial Holiday Savings Sale runs from Friday through Nov. 15, immediately preceding its official Black Friday event from Nov. 16-30. Additionally, Costco will host an online-only sale on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, while physical warehouses remain closed for the holiday. Black Friday Weekend discounts will be available both online and in warehouses from Nov. 27-30, followed by online-only Cyber Monday offers on Nov. 30. Across all five events, promotions feature substantial price reductions on televisions, laptops, home goods, furniture, appliances, apparel, and jewelry.
Target is approaching the season with a heavy emphasis on product variety and value tiers, introducing more than 8,000 new gift items, over half of which are exclusive to the chain. The inventory features thousands of items priced at $5 or less, alongside cashmere starting at $25, pajamas from $10, holiday decor from $5, and toys from major brands such as Barbie and LEGO. Target’s promotional calendar includes daily deals running from Nov. 1 through Dec. 24, early Black Friday offers from Nov. 5-7, and rotating limited-time weekend discounts. The retailer is also testing Ask Target, an artificial intelligence shopping assistant integrated into its website and mobile app to assist customers in navigating gift options.
Walmart has scheduled three major holiday shopping events spanning from Nov. 12 through Dec. 2, covering electronics, toys, fashion, beauty, home goods, and seasonal essentials. Its Early Black Friday event is set for Nov. 12-15, followed by main Black Friday deals from Nov. 23-29 and Cyber Monday discounts running from Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. Online sales for these events will launch at 12:01 a.m. EST, while in-store promotions will open at 6 a.m. local time for the first two events. Paid loyalty subscribers enrolled in Walmart+ will receive early access windows, including exclusive 24-hour priority access to select online-only deals. Walmart’s merchandising strategy highlights thousands of gifts priced under $20, alongside 25 items from its annual Top Toys list priced below $25. The retailer also recently introduced a combined membership package linking Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus services for $120 annually.
