Uribe Defense Seeks Investigation Into Attorney Over Alleged Info Leaks

The defense team for former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe has formally petitioned the third delegated prosecutor before the Supreme Court of Justice to investigate attorney Miguel Ángel del Río. The request accuses Del Río of repeatedly and publicly leaking sensitive information concerning an ongoing judicial proceeding that remains under summary confidentiality.

According to the legal filing, the defense claims that Del Río has engaged in what it describes as a systematic disclosure of confidential case materials. The document highlights specific dates, noting that the attorney allegedly shared an evidentiary decision, witness identities, and factual descriptions related to the investigation via his social media account on October 26, 2026. The filing follows an earlier complaint submitted on September 9, 2026, which alleged that Del Río had publicly disclosed the contents of an interrogation proceeding conducted on September 4 of that same year.

The defense argues that these public disclosures violate the mandatory confidentiality rules binding parties involved in the instruction. The submitted documentation outlines a chronological overview of actions that the petitioners argue demonstrate disloyal conduct and potential violations of law, asserting that the prosecutor in charge had been warned on multiple occasions regarding the situation.

In addition to the complaints regarding past disclosures, the defense pointed to public statements made by Del Río concerning forthcoming procedural steps. The attorney previously announced on social media that the prosecutor’s office had decided to take statements from former paramilitary leaders known by the aliases “Don Berna” and “Julián Bolívar” as part of proceedings involving Uribe regarding the El Aro and La Granja massacres, as well as the assassination of Jesús María Valle.

The defense contends that such announcements indicate not only advanced awareness of impending judicial decisions but also a deliberate intention to continue broadcasting restricted procedural developments. Consequently, the legal team has submitted seven distinct requests to the prosecution, including a formal call for copies of the file to be forwarded to the National Commission of Judicial Discipline to examine Del Río’s professional conduct. Furthermore, the petition asks authorities to require the attorney to abstain from disseminating restricted information in future proceedings.
