Waukesha Woman Sentenced to Probation After Pleading No Contest in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

An 81-year-old Waukesha woman has been sentenced to one year of probation following a February hit-and-run crash that injured a pedestrian at a downtown intersection.

Janet Wolfgram entered a no contest plea in Waukesha County court on October 14 to a reduced charge of misdemeanor hit-and-run, court records show. The Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office had initially charged her with a felony in connection with the incident.

Waukesha police responded to the collision on February 8, 2026, near the intersection of East Avenue and Broadway. Officers arrived to find the victim on the ground holding his leg. A witness at the scene identified the vehicle involved as a red 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, provided its license plate number, and tracked the car until it stopped at a grocery store parking lot on Sunset Drive.

Investigators utilized surveillance footage from a nearby gas station to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash. According to the criminal complaint, the video showed the victim legally crossing the intersection with a green traffic signal when Wolfgram made a left turn, striking him without slowing down or swerving. The impact launched the pedestrian onto the hood of the car; he rolled over the windshield before falling to the pavement. Responding officers estimated that the victim was thrown 15 to 20 feet from the point of impact.

Authorities made contact with Wolfgram as she exited her vehicle at the Sunset Drive grocery store. When officers asked if she realized she had been involved in an accident, she stated that she believed she had hit something but was uncertain what it was. Upon being informed that she had struck a person, court documents indicate that Wolfgram became visibly distraught.

Waukesha County Judge Scott Wagner presided over the case and handed down the sentence of one year of probation.
