Rising Stars Eyeing Roles in Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg’s ‘Call of Duty’ Film Adaptation

Hollywood’s transition from video game consoles to movie screens is gathering momentum as creators line up high-profile talent for one of gaming’s biggest military franchises. While official casting announcements remain pending for the upcoming Call of Duty feature film, rising actors are already actively positioning themselves to join the production.

The project brings together screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, known for his gritty storytelling across television and film, and director Peter Berg, whose past work includes action-heavy features such as Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon. Given Sheridan’s extensive track record crafting crime thrillers and military dramas alongside Berg’s experience with high-pressure action set pieces, the adaptation has attracted considerable early attention from industry talent.

Speaking publicly at the Newport Beach Film Festival, actor Ray Nicholson revealed he is already taking proactive steps to prepare for a potential role. Nicholson, who recently collaborated with Berg on the project Mosquito Day, admitted he would welcome the chance to work with the director again on the video game adaptation.

“That would be amazing,” Nicholson said regarding the prospect of joining the cast. He added with a laugh that he has been secretly working with a dialect coach around the clock because he believes the production might seek British actors, jokingly calling his own British accent the worst of all time.

Nicholson praised Berg’s straightforward approach to filmmaking, describing him as exceptionally authentic and grounded. He noted that Berg brings genuine heart to large-scale action projects without compromising his direct personal style, calling the prospect of entering the Call of Duty intellectual property a thrilling development for the expanding intersection of film and gaming.

Fellow rising actor Inde Navarrette expressed an equally enthusiastic readiness to join the production if given the opportunity. Navarrette, who was recently cast to play Rogue in an upcoming X-Men reboot, described herself as a lifelong fan of the game franchise and a former streamer who would need very little convincing to sign on.

Asked what it would take for her to accept a role in the film, Navarrette indicated she would answer a call or text immediately, joking that she would be ready to leave the moment a car arrived outside.

The Call of Duty franchise has accumulated hundreds of millions of players worldwide over two decades, covering historical military engagements from World War II to contemporary combat and speculative futuristic warfare. Despite the early enthusiasm from prospective cast members, the film remains in active development with official casting choices and release dates yet to be determined by the studio.
