Qatar Rejects Unfounded Israeli Election Interference Claims Amid Contested Vote

As Israel awaits the final outcome of its tightly contested parliamentary elections, political figures have thrust Qatar into the domestic dispute through accusations of voting interference. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and affiliated media outlets alleged, without providing evidence, that Qatar channeled funds to Arab parties inside Israel to support get-out-the-vote initiatives.
Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Majed al-Ansari categorically dismissed the claims in a Thursday social media post on X. Describing the allegations as both ridiculous and dangerous, al-Ansari characterized the assertions as part of a long-running campaign to drag Doha into internal Israeli politics.
Partial election figures indicated that Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc would fall short of securing a majority in the Knesset following Tuesday’s ballot. Meanwhile, Arab lists secured a record number of seats in the new parliament, though major political parties have declined to pursue partnerships with them. Amid these political shifts, Dean Livine, acting director of Israel’s Central Elections Committee, formally dismissed notions of foreign meddling. In a letter to a member of parliament and fellow committee member, Livine affirmed that the Knesset elections proceeded lawfully and that poll-station integrity was rigorously safeguarded.
Al-Ansari noted the absurdity of the conflicting narratives propagated by certain political figures, pointing out that critics have previously accused Qatar of financing Netanyahu himself, the Israeli political left, and now the Arab electorate. He remarked that accepting such contradictory claims would imply Qatar effectively controls the entirety of the Israeli political spectrum.
The foreign ministry spokesperson urged Israeli politicians to address domestic governance rather than utilizing Doha as a political scapegoat for their own electoral setbacks. He emphasized that the government in Doha maintains absolute noninvolvement in internal Israeli affairs, viewing the electoral competition strictly as a domestic matter.
Despite the ongoing political rhetoric, Qatar remains a principal diplomatic actor in regional mediation, including ongoing efforts concerning the conflict in Gaza and diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran. Al-Ansari stressed that the latest accusations would not deter Doha from pursuing its humanitarian initiatives, supporting the Palestinian population, or advancing regional stability.
