Influential Tech Podcast Cools on Trump-Preferred Term for Artificial Intelligence

The prominent American technology podcast “All-In” has noticeably cooled on using the term “super intelligence,” the alternative phrasing for artificial intelligence favored by President Donald Trump, according to an analysis of program transcripts.

Mentions of super intelligence, frequently abbreviated as SI, by the podcast’s co-hosts initially surged following an announcement by Trump on Sept. 22 advocating for the renaming. Despite the spike, references to SI never eclipsed traditional mentions of artificial intelligence throughout the tracking period.

The trajectory of the terminology’s usage on the program shifted across October episodes. On Oct. 2, co-host David Sacks—who previously served as an artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency adviser to Trump—remarked on the air, “You’ve got this AI boom, or SI boom.” During that same Oct. 2 episode, Sacks and fellow co-hosts Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, and David Friedberg uttered the phrase super intelligence 23 times, compared to 31 mentions of artificial intelligence.

However, the phrase has since dropped out of regular rotation on the program. By the latest analyzed episode on Oct. 23, the hosts utilized the term artificial intelligence 29 times while omitting super intelligence entirely.

The podcast wields significant influence within both Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. Sacks maintains his role as an outside adviser to Trump, and the White House’s broader artificial intelligence policy has been characterized as bearing the distinct stamp of the podcast’s discussions and perspectives. Given the program’s policy footprint and reach among decision-makers, the apparent abandonment of the preferred nomenclature suggests the alternative phrasing faces steep hurdles in achieving broader public adoption.
