NFL Reviews New Allegations Against Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs

The National Football League is reviewing previously unreported allegations against Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs following revelations that at least three additional women have accused the player of physical abuse. As scrutiny intensifies, Jacobs’ legal team has strongly pushed back against the growing body of accusations.

Attorneys David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III issued a statement characterizing the newly reported claims as uncorroborated and dated. According to the legal team, the Brown County, Wisconsin, District Attorney’s office and local law enforcement had already reviewed these matters.

“They conducted their own exhaustive investigation, along with the police department, and the D.A. determined that only two misdemeanor charges were warranted,” the attorneys said in their statement. They added that prosecutors entered into a plea agreement with Jacobs, noting that the player has repeatedly expressed remorse and is complying with the terms of the agreement.

Jacobs was initially arrested on May 26 following an altercation with his then-girlfriend, facing three domestic abuse charges alongside counts of strangulation, suffocation, and victim intimidation. On September 10, he entered a no-contest plea to misdemeanor counts of battery and criminal damage to property.

Following public disclosure of the initial arrest, at least three more women contacted the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department to report similar allegations, according to a case file first detailed by local media. Police records released Friday outline the specific claims brought forward since May.

One woman reported an alleged January 2022 incident in which she claimed Jacobs slapped her across the face, threw her onto a bed and the floor, grabbed her by the throat, spit on her, and stated, “I should kill you right now.” A second woman alleged that in April 2021, Jacobs grabbed her arms and biceps, pushed her against a wall, and discarded her belongings. A third accuser, who stated she met Jacobs through social media, alleged he grabbed her by the hair, placed his hands on her head and neck, dragged her, scratched her, and took her cell phone in May 2022.

The league’s ongoing investigation into Jacobs remains open, leaving his future standing with the NFL and the Green Bay Packers uncertain. The NFL previously placed Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list in August, sidelining the three-time Pro Bowler for the first six games of the season. Since returning, Jacobs has played in two games, totaling 143 yards from scrimmage. During a recent Thursday victory over the Panthers, Jacobs scored a touchdown and placed his hands behind his back in a gesture that appeared to mimic handcuffs, though he later stated the motion was a tribute to a gospel song titled “Break Every Chain.”
