Minnesota Weather Authority Issues Alert for Severe Afternoon Storms

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has issued an official alert warning residents of a potential round of severe afternoon thunderstorms slated for Wednesday. The developing weather system is projected to track from west to east, sweeping across central portions of Minnesota during the afternoon hours before shifting into western Wisconsin by the evening.

According to the timeline provided by forecasters, a line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to form west of the Twin Cities around midday. These systems will intensify as they push eastward, entering the western metropolitan area shortly after 3 p.m.

The anticipated movement of the storms places the hazardous weather directly over the afternoon and evening rush hour commute. Officials noted that the active weather could also overlap with various after-school activities, athletic practices, and other outdoor events scheduled for Wednesday.

While not every location along the path is guaranteed to experience severe conditions, any stronger storm that develops carries multiple significant threats. Forecasters warn that the primary hazards include gusty winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour, hail, heavy downpours, frequent lightning strikes, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
