The jungle is once again spilling into the everyday world in the latest installment of the franchise, as Paramount prepares for the theatrical release of Jumanji: Open World on December 25, 2026. The newly debuted trailer indicates that the chaotic mix of game avatars and real-world environments will mirror the premise of the original 1995 film, ultimately pulling the characters back into the game to set things right through another round of body-swapping mishaps.
The upcoming feature brings back the entire principal cast from previous entries. Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black as Shelly Oberon, Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, Kevin Hart as Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, and Nick Jonas as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough are all set to reprise their roles. Also returning are Awkwafina as Ming Flatfoot, Rhys Darby as Nigel Billingsley, Bebe Neuwirth as Nora, Morgan Turner as Martha, Madison Iseman as Bethany, Alex Wolff as Spencer Gilpin, Ser’Darius Blain as Fridge Johnson, and Danny DeVito as Spencer’s grandfather, Eddie. Bebe Neuwirth’s character Nora, who also appeared in the 1995 film, joins the returning ensemble alongside Marin Hinkle as Spencer’s mother, Janice.
Fresh additions to the franchise expand the roster of characters caught up in the digital mayhem. Dan Hildebrand has been cast as Donatas, a kitchen worker who ends up stuck inside the Shelly Oberon avatar, while Jack Jewkes plays Nora’s nephew Tyson, who finds himself assigned to Mouse Finbar’s avatar and equipped with a bazooka despite being too young to handle it. Additionally, Burn Gorman, Nasim Pedrad, and Brittany O’Grady are slated to appear in roles that remain undisclosed.
Plot details from the preview reveal that the boundary between the game and reality breaks down when avatars and animals spill over into the real world. Among the body-swapping twists highlighted in the trailer, Spencer’s mother Janice winds up in the avatar of Bravestone, while Spencer himself takes on the Ruby Roundhouse avatar. These unexpected pairings set the stage for the characters to re-enter the game environment to restore order before the cinematic release at the end of next year.
