IPL 2027 Mini-Auction Scheduled for December 16 in Goa

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has finalized the schedule for its 2027 player auction, selecting Goa as the venue for the one-day event on December 16. This session represents the final mini-auction of the current cycle before the league undergoes a significant overhaul with a mega auction slated for 2028.
The December 16 date aligns with the international cricket calendar, coinciding with the second One Day International (ODI) between India and Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru. The auction will be a day-long event, providing franchises a high-stakes window to adjust their rosters ahead of the new season.
League officials have already established a clear timeline for franchises to manage their rosters. Teams have until November 15 to submit their lists of retained players. Following this deadline, the IPL will provide franchises with a pool of registered players for review. Teams will then shortlist their preferred candidates before a final list and the specific order of auction sets are distributed in the week leading up to the Goa event.
Trading activity between franchises has remained relatively quiet since the conclusion of the 2026 season, with only two trades recorded to date. Under IPL regulations, the trade window remains active until one week before the auction. It will subsequently reopen after the auction concludes and stay open until one month before the 2027 season begins.
While the exact start date for the 2027 season has not been officially confirmed, preliminary planning by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had previously targeted a window between March 14 and May 30. However, recent indicators following the board’s Annual General Meeting suggest that the tournament might see a slightly later start toward the end of March.
This auction carries particular weight as it is the last opportunity for teams to fine-tune their squads before the 2028 mega auction. That upcoming 2028 milestone will also mark the beginning of a new media rights cycle. The economic scale of the league was last reset in 2022, when media rights were sold for approximately INR 48,390.5 crore (US$6.2 billion), solidifying the IPL’s position among the world’s most valuable sports properties.
