Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen Backs Michael Olise for Ballon d’Or

Bayern Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen has endorsed French winger Michael Olise to capture a future Ballon d’Or, as the German club prepares to open discussions regarding a long-term contract extension.
Olise joined Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace for €53 million in 2024. Following a stellar run of form in Germany, his Transfermarkt valuation has surged to €180 million. The Bavarian hierarchy are eager to secure his services beyond his existing deal, which runs until 2029, successfully fending off transfer interest from Real Madrid during the summer.
The backing follows Olise’s ninth-place finish in the Ballon d’Or voting. That top-ten placement came after an exceptional 2025-26 assessment period for both club and country. Across 69 matches in all competitions during that span, the creative forward recorded 27 goals and 35 assists.
Discussing the player’s potential to claim football’s most prestigious individual award, Dreesen told Sport Bild: “There is no need to discuss whether Michael is a gifted footballer – he most certainly is. If someone asked me today whether he would win the Ballon d’Or one day, my answer would always be: I don’t see why not. Of course, he also needs a team that functions well around him. He has that here with us, and he appreciates it.”
Olise has maintained his impressive productivity into the 2026-27 campaign, contributing 10 goals and six assists in just 11 appearances across all competitions. Although his current contract has nearly three years remaining, the Bundesliga champions want to ward off potential European suitors by rewarding his rapid development.
Regarding the upcoming negotiations, Dreesen added: “We want Michael to play for us for as long as possible. When the time is right, we will discuss the future with him.”
On the pitch, Olise and his teammates prepare to host Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal second round. Successfully navigating the midweek domestic cup fixture precedes a high-profile Bundesliga clash at home against arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
