Clyburn Travels to Michigan to Rally Support for El-Sayed

South Carolina Representative Jim Clyburn is traveling to Michigan this weekend to help rally Democrats and boost turnout among Black voters in support of Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, according to political adviser Antjuan Seawright.

The upcoming visit comes as Michigan Democrats seek to project a united front ahead of Election Day. Some party members have voiced concerns that Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers could make inroads and erode the party’s traditional edge among Black voters.

Clyburn’s intervention follows a competitive primary in which he initially backed Representative Haley Stevens, even campaigning alongside her during the final days of that contest. The race later encountered complications when Stevens’ fiancé voted for Rogers, a decision influenced in part by internal party divisions regarding Israel. Despite the friction, Stevens maintains a somewhat lukewarm posture of support for El-Sayed.

Ahead of his weekend engagements in Michigan, Clyburn’s itinerary includes campaign stops in Mississippi on Thursday and Minnesota on Friday, as outlined by Seawright.
