Baltimore Ravens Sign Kicker Jake Moody to Practice Squad to Press Tyler Loop

The Baltimore Ravens have reinforced their special teams unit by signing kicker Jake Moody to the practice squad, marking his second stint with the franchise this season. Moody previously spent two weeks on the practice squad in early September. His return brings immediate competition for incumbent kicker Tyler Loop as the coaching staff looks to address late-game execution issues.

Loop has experienced a mixed campaign during the 2026 season. On one hand, he has converted 10 of his 13 field-goal attempts, delivering clutch performances that included a dramatic walk-off 56-yarder in overtime to defeat the Dallas Cowboys during Week 3. The following week, he set a franchise milestone by hitting the longest field goal in the history of M&T Bank Stadium during a matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

However, recent struggles in high-pressure moments have raised concerns within the organization. During a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns, Loop missed a critical 49-yard field-goal attempt early in the fourth quarter that shifted the momentum of the contest. The miss left the door open for Cleveland, which capitalized on the opportunity by scoring 10 unanswered points to secure the victory. Head Coach Jesse Minter noted that Loop had missed a similarly crucial fourth-quarter kick two weeks prior against the Titans.

Addressing reporters following the recent setbacks, Minter emphasized the demanding nature of the position while acknowledging Loop’s preparation and professionalism. There remains a high level of confidence in how Loop prepares, practices, and strikes the ball during weekly workouts. Nevertheless, the coaching staff stressed that the kicking position ultimately hinges on tangible results.

Minter compared the impact of late-game missed field goals to turnovers, noting how they drastically alter the scoring margin between a one-score and a two-score game. While the team plans to continue working closely with Loop and supporting his development, the recent misses have forced the front office to bring in experienced depth via the practice squad to maintain pressure and performance standards.
