Apple Unveils Touch-Screen OLED MacBook Pro Starting at $2,899
Apple has expanded its portable computer lineup with a new MacBook Pro featuring an integrated touch-screen OLED display, a redesigned chassis, and advanced display technology. The new laptops carry a starting price of $2,899 and are available for pre-order ahead of a formal release on Friday, November 6.
The newly introduced PROLED display utilizes a two-layer tandem OLED architecture combined with advanced display engine algorithms and factory calibration. Apple describes the screen as having exceptional brightness, contrast, and color accuracy, with both peak HDR and SDR brightness reaching 2,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. The display engine controls color and luminance on a pixel-by-pixel basis, compensating for playback content, thermal conditions, ambient lighting, and pixel wear. ProMotion technology dynamically adjusts refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz, while an anti-reflection coating minimizes glare under harsh lighting. Customers can also select an optional nano-texture glass finish.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, noted on social media that the new hardware brings a fresh dynamic to the portable lineup, emphasizing the tactile experience of the screen. Touch sensors are integrated directly into the display panel to prevent latency, delivering a responsive interactive experience. Users can swipe through web pages, pinch-to-zoom on photographs, drag and drop slides between presentations, and double-tap windows to expand them to full screen. A newly engineered hinge provides enhanced stability during touch interactions, while advanced video stabilization keeps video calls steady while the screen is being touched. According to company officials, macOS automatically translates touch inputs into clicks, allowing many existing applications to support touch control without modification.

The physical profile is up to 1 millimeter thinner than previous generations, and overall weight has been reduced to 3 pounds for the 14-inch model and 4 pounds for the 16-inch version. The traditional display notch has been removed and replaced with a smaller Dynamic Island, which incorporates Spotlight search, Live Activities, and Siri AI in a manner similar to iPhone interfaces. Narrower bezels expand the actual screen sizes to 14.2 inches for the smaller variant and 16.3 inches for the larger model.
Internal performance is driven by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips initially introduced in March, paired with a redesigned thermal architecture engineered to direct hot air away from the screen. Unified memory scales up to 128GB, and a new six-speaker audio system delivers a 50 percent increase in bass depth. Connectivity features include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, a MagSafe charging connector, and a headphone jack. The machines support up to four external displays, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. Rapid charging replenishes the battery to 50 percent in 30 minutes, and maximum storage capacity reaches up to 16TB.
Apple intends to sell the new OLED MacBook Pro alongside existing mini-LED configurations and a new M6 14-inch MacBook Pro.
