Afghanistan Defeats Australia to Claim Maiden Hong Kong Sixes Crown

Afghanistan captured its first-ever Hong Kong Sixes title on November 1, 2026, defeating Australia by four wickets in a high-scoring final showdown. Chasing a target of 116, the Afghan side reached 119 for two in just 5.1 overs, driven by a blistering, unbroken partnership between Imran Mir and Farmanullah Safi.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Australia posted a competitive total of 115 in its allotted six overs. Max Bryant spearheaded the Australian innings with a quickfire 44 off 14 deliveries, striking four boundaries and four sixes before being removed by Nangeyalia Khan, who finished with figures of one for 17 in his single over. Nick Hobson added 23 runs from eight balls, while Alex Ross anchored the late surge, remaining unbeaten on 29 off 10 balls. Karim Janat also chipped in with a vital wicket for the bowling side.

In response, Afghanistan encountered early turbulence when Karim Janat fell for 13 off five balls to Patrick Dooley, and Gulbadin Naib was dismissed for 17 off six by Chris Green, who conceded 30 runs in his lone over. Those early departures paved the way for the match-winning stand between Imran and Farmanullah.

Imran delivered a masterclass in power-hitting, smashing an unbeaten 53 off just 14 deliveries, which featured two boundaries and seven towering sixes. His performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade. Partnering him, Farmanullah finished 26 not out from only seven balls, hitting four sixes to help seal the four-wicket victory with five balls to spare.
