West Indies Claims Key Wickets Against Bangladesh on Day Two in Dhaka

West Indies bowlers seized control during the opening session of the second day in the first Test match against Bangladesh at Dhaka, picking up crucial wickets before the lunch break. The morning’s pressure began when Mominul Haque fell to a soft dismissal on 68 for 2 after dancing down the track to loft a tossed-up delivery, slicing it straight to Joseph at mid-off. Unable to find the necessary elevation, a crestfallen Haque made his long walk back to the pavilion.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto followed soon after with the total at 110 for 3. Shanto attempted a paddle sweep against a floated, fuller-length delivery on middle and leg from Roston Chase, but failed to connect as the ball struck the bottom part of his front pad. West Indies players immediately appealed for a leg-before-wicket, and Chase sent the decision upstairs. Ultra Edge confirmed a clear gap between bat and glove, while ball-tracking showed the delivery pitching in line, impacting in line, and clipping the middle-leg stump to send the Bangladesh skipper packing.

Spin continued to unravel the hosts as Warrican struck through the gates to remove Mehidy Hasan Miraz, leaving the batter baffled and looking back in disbelief at his rattled stumps. Miraz committed forward on a good-length delivery that skidded straight on with the arm from around off, playing for a turn that never materialized as the ball slipped right through the bat-pad gap to crash into the timber.

Taijul Islam added to the collapse at 253 for 6, offering a harmless non-turner flighted ball on the fifth-stump channel. Playing for turn that again failed to happen, Taijul ticked the outside edge of his bat, gifting a regulation catch to wicketkeeper Jangoo.

The morning session culminated at 272 for 9 when Shoriful Islam became Warrican’s fifth victim, securing the bowler’s fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Shoriful opted for a review after a flighted good-length ball on the off-stump line beat the full face of his bat, clipping his inner thigh pad directly in front of the stumps. Replays confirmed the ball pitched outside off with impact in line, striking the middle stump plumb. Warrican walked back holding the match ball aloft to a warm reception from his teammates in the dugout, bringing an eventful morning session to a close as the teams broke for lunch on Day 2.
