Texas Senate Candidate Paxton Criticizes Opponent Talarico Ahead of Vote

Texas Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton launched sharp criticisms against his Democratic opponent, James Talarico, during a recent media appearance, asserting that the broader press corps is attempting to shield the challenger’s actual political record from voters.

Speaking on FNC’s “The Will Cain Show” just four days before the election, Paxton characterized his opponent as a “socialist Democrat” whose ultimate goal is to reshape the nation away from the vision established by the country’s founders. The candidate pointed to high-profile campaign appearances alongside national figures, noting that he had spent the previous day with J.D. Vance and had recently campaigned alongside the president in Corpus Christi and Lubbock as part of a 17-day statewide bus tour.

Addressing the historical context of Texas senatorial politics—where a Democrat has not won a Senate seat since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988—host Will Cain pressed Paxton on his standing in the final stretch of the campaign. Paxton expressed confidence in his electoral prospects while detailing the ongoing push to counter what he described as a lack of media transparency regarding his opponent’s background.

Paxton also challenged Talarico’s campaign messaging and financial backing, arguing that despite populist framing by his rival, substantial financial contributions have originated from progressive strongholds outside of Texas, including California, New York, and Chicago. Furthermore, Paxton claimed that the national party leadership, specifically pointing to Senate Democratic leadership, is actively supporting the challenger’s bid.

Accusing his opponent of misleading the electorate regarding both candidates’ platforms, Paxton concluded that the fundamental challenge of the campaign’s closing days remains breaking through public misperceptions to communicate his own platform directly to voters across the state.
