South Park Tackles Beef Shortage and Grand Theft Auto VI in Season 29

Comedy Central’s long-running animated series South Park has returned with an episode titled “Guinea Pig on a Stick,” steering its 29th season into the heart of American agricultural supply issues, patriotism, and an unexpected running joke about an upcoming video game release.

The episode opens with Eric Cartman celebrating a school cafeteria lunch menu featuring sloppy joes, accompanied by a musical homage using Gary Glitter’s Rock and Roll Part Two. Cartman’s enthusiasm is abruptly derailed when he learns the actual menu item is cuy—traditional Peruvian roasted guinea pig on a stick. The menu change stems from the town’s fictionalized geopolitical rebrand as South America, which has driven massive demand for locally farmed meat across the rest of the United States.

Despite widespread affection for the local beef, residents of the mountain town find themselves priced out of reasonably priced cuts. Frequent cutaways to a fictionalized Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse depict patrons eagerly consuming rich, buttery steaks that unfailingly trigger violent, cartoonish bouts of explosive diarrhea. Yet the severe physical side effects fail to deter diners, who treat the consumption of the luxury meat as a demonstration of patriotic duty.

The narrative also incorporates a lingering subplot involving Randy Marsh, who remains trapped in a miniaturized child’s body following a previous episode’s Sephora-related looksmaxxing mishap. Randy struggles to fit in with the younger cohort, oscillating between outdated internet slang and generational references to The Goonies. While Kyle and Cartman remain dismissive, Stan exhibits visible frustration with his father’s antics, though he ultimately softens after pressure from his peers regarding Randy’s sincere desire to connect.

Meanwhile, the town’s food crisis peaks during a violent confrontation between the steakhouse’s proprietor and a faction of imitation cowboys operating a Sizzler restaurant, who abscond with the local cattle. Amid the chaos, the steakhouse owner attributes ongoing economic and supply disruptions to a massive incoming shift arriving in November: the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Rather than maintaining the concept as a background gag, the episode brings the video game reference to the foreground by showcasing a top-secret gameplay video to the children and Randy, hinting at a potential serialized story arc leading into the season finale.

To resolve the local food shortage, the children ultimately rebrand the guinea pig skewers as a patriotic delicacy for upscale diners. By preparing the alternative meat with heavy butter to mimic the rich profile of traditional beef, the kids successfully replicate the signature explosive side effects. The episode concludes with upscale restaurant patrons suffering the familiar violent digestive reaction, capped off with red and blue celebratory fireworks.
