Seattle Sounders Host Houston Dynamo in Crucial Western Conference Clash

The Seattle Sounders return to Lumen Field on Wednesday for their second and final regular-season meeting against the Houston Dynamo, entering a pivotal stretch as the Major League Soccer campaign winds down. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT. Broadcast coverage is available via Apple TV, with radio broadcasts airing on 950 KJR AM in English and El Rey 1360 AM in Spanish.

Heading into the fixture, the Sounders sit seventh in the Western Conference standings with an 11-10-10 record, accumulating 43 points through 31 matches. The Dynamo occupy fifth place in the West with a 13-9-9 record and 48 points. Recent form differs between the sides across all competitions; Seattle enters the match with a record of two draws, two wins, and a loss in their last five outings, while Houston arrives winless in their last seven matches, sliding down the conference table after contending near the summit for much of the year.

The clubs last met on April 4 at Shell Energy Stadium, where the Sounders secured a 1-0 victory. That encounter featured standout goalkeeping performances from Jonathon Bond and Andrew Thomas before Paul Rothrock broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute by capitalizing on a mis-cleared cross to score from close range.

Seattle comes into Wednesday’s match seeking three points following a 2-2 road draw against San Diego FC. In that fixture, goals from Dejan Joveljić and Sebastian Gomez staked Seattle to an early second-half lead, only for a pair of penalties awarded to the hosts to level the score. Gomez, a 20-year-old Homegrown winger, has elevated his production recently, bringing his season totals to four goals and four assists across all competitions, including three goals in his past five appearances. Joveljić, a Designated Player and Serbian striker who arrived during the Summer Transfer Window, has tallied five goals in his first eight matches in Rave Green, highlighted by a long-range left-footed strike against San Diego.

With only three regular-season matches remaining, Wednesday’s contest represents a crucial opportunity in the standings. A victory for Seattle would narrow the gap behind fifth-place Houston to just two points and pull them within one point of sixth-place LAFC with a game in hand. Furthermore, a Sounders win combined with a Portland Timbers loss or draw against St. Louis CITY SC would clinch Seattle a spot in the 2026 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

Houston remains dangerous despite their recent slump, largely driven by Brazilian forward Guilherme. In his debut season in the league, Guilherme has recorded 16 goals and 10 assists in league play, accounting for over 60 percent of the Dynamo’s offensive production.
