Seattle Prepares for Cold Front Bringing Much-Needed Rain After Dry October

Seattle residents are waking up to cool temperatures and preparing for a significant change in weather conditions as a cold front approaches the region. The incoming system is expected to arrive by Saturday evening, bringing an end to a remarkably dry stretch that has marked the month so far. Overnight lows will dip into the 30s across areas to the south and out into the Olympic Peninsula, while the majority of the Puget Sound lowlands will experience morning temperatures in the 40s.

The approaching front will usher in scattered light rain overnight, transitioning into breezy showers by early Sunday morning. Forecasters predict that winds will gust between 20 and 35 miles per hour at times, accompanied by occasional moderate downpours. Total rainfall amounts are projected to range from approximately 0.30 inches inland to over an inch closer to the coast.

The shift in weather arrives just as the Seattle Seahawks prepare to host the Kansas City Chiefs at Lumen Field on Sunday. Fans heading to the game are advised to layer up against the cool conditions. While the game forecast currently calls for mostly dry weather as morning rain moves out of the area, a stray shower remains possible due to lingering moisture following the front’s passage.

This weekend’s precipitation marks a sharp contrast to the broader weather pattern observed this month. October has recorded some of the driest conditions on record for the area, but the upcoming week will bring a distinctly unsettled period. Chances for rain are expected to persist through Thursday before more stable, drier skies return in time for Halloween celebrations next Saturday.
