Saudi Renewable Energy Giant ACWA Power Enters US Market with $4 Billion Venture

Saudi Arabia’s largest renewable energy firm, ACWA Power, is expanding its operations into the United States through a newly formed $4 billion joint venture dubbed Plenum Power. The initiative is backed by a partnership with Washington, D.C.-based investment firm EIG and is designed to capitalize on surging power demands driven by expanding data centers and broader national electrification efforts.

Under the terms of the new agreement, EIG will hold a 51 percent majority stake in Plenum Power, while ACWA Power will retain the remaining ownership share. The venture plans to deploy capital toward both the acquisition of existing power facilities and the development of brand-new power generation plants across the United States.

This strategic maneuver represents the first time ACWA Power has ventured into the U.S. market. Established initially in 2002 by a collective of prominent Saudi families to construct domestic water and power infrastructure, the company has since grown into a multinational enterprise. Today, it maintains active projects across 16 countries spanning the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, and counts the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund among its part-owners.

Industry observers note that the cross-border expansion stands as a distinctive instance of a major Saudi enterprise launching an international growth initiative targeting the American energy sector, combining EIG’s domestic investment expertise with ACWA’s extensive plant development background.
