New Streaming Movies Feature Anne Hathaway and Ridley Scott Projects

A fresh slate of video-on-demand releases brings major literary adaptations and animated features to home screens this week, offering viewers options ranging from psychological drama to post-apocalyptic survival and family entertainment.

Among the week’s notable debuts is Verity, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover. The film stars Anne Hathaway as author Verity Crawford, who is left unable to move or speak following an accident. Dakota Johnson co-stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a writer brought in by Verity’s husband, played by Josh Hartnett, to complete the author’s final book. As Lowen digs into the work, she uncovers a disturbing collection of family secrets.

Set in Colorado in the wake of a devastating flu pandemic, the film features an ensemble cast including Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Guy Pearce. The story follows survivors who form an alliance to protect themselves against rival factions in a dangerous new landscape.

Families looking for animated options can turn to Forgotten Island from DreamWorks Animation. Set in the 1990s in the Philippines, the movie centers on best friends Jo and Raissa, voiced by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, respectively, after they stumble upon a portal leading to a mystical realm named Nakali. The voice cast also features Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, and Lea Salonga.
