Golden State Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Rejects Media Training

Just five games into his professional basketball career, Golden State Warriors rookie forward Yaxel Lendeborg has sparked widespread debate among fans and given the team’s communications staff a unique challenge through his unfiltered media presence.
Following a standout 31-point performance against the Denver Nuggets, Lendeborg was asked whether he would participate in formal media training. He dismissed the prospect outright.
“I’m not doing that, man,” Lendeborg told the San Francisco Chronicle. “I’m going to stay true to myself, and be honest. I’ve seen plenty of interviews where people are talking and it’s like, ‘Man, I don’t want to watch this,’ you know what I mean? And it’s not like I’m click-baiting or click-farming or whatever the heck people are saying.”
Lendeborg insisted that his direct answers simply reflect his genuine feelings, emphasizing that he has “never been a liar.” His candor has drawn a polarized response from supporters, with some fans urging him to adopt a more polished public persona while others hope he remains entirely unvarnished.

His outspoken approach was evident from the opening night of the season following a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, when Lendeborg stated that he had “lost all respect” for Lakers star Luka Doncic—a remark he subsequently stood by. He also admitted after the Denver game that he “would’ve cried” if the Warriors had lost and accused the Minnesota Timberwolves of failing to play “real defense.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr joked with reporters on Oct. 22 that the rookie is “going to be a headache” for Raymond Ridder, the franchise’s senior vice president of communications. Despite the headline-grabbing commentary, no one within the organization has attempted to muzzle him. Mentor Josh Lane noted that the sole request made to Lendeborg was that he keep team tactical schemes off his summer Twitch streams.
Kerr did address the Doncic remarks directly with the full roster present. The head coach told the rookie that while he appreciated the player’s swagger, he needed to back it up on the court, offering the lighthearted tactical note to “just don’t foul him next time.”
Lendeborg’s next opportunity on the floor comes October 30 in a highly anticipated rematch against the Lakers and Luka Doncic, a matchup the rookie acknowledged he is “absolutely” looking forward to.
