Man Found Dead Near Hyattsville Elementary School Trailhead

Park maintenance workers discovered the body of a Hispanic man in his 20s Thursday morning near a trailhead directly behind an elementary school in Hyattsville, according to the Maryland National Capital Park Police. The grim discovery occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Oct. 29 at Langley Hampshire Neighborhood Park, situated near the end of Quebec Street directly behind Langley Park-McCormick Elementary School.

Investigators processing the scene reported finding multiple shell casings surrounding the victim, who had sustained visible trauma to his upper body. Authorities have not yet identified a suspect or taken anyone into custody in connection with the case. Police have withheld the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin and have not officially confirmed his exact cause of death.

The discovery marked the third separate homicide investigation opened across Prince George’s County within a single morning. The sequence of violent incidents began earlier that day at 4:15 a.m., when officers responded to a fatal stabbing in College Park. Just an hour later, law enforcement officers were dispatched to another location in Hyattsville, where a man was found dead following a shooting.

Authorities have not disclosed what led up to the man’s death or whether the incident is connected to any other recent criminal activity in the region. Investigators have also not stated whether classes or school activities at the adjacent Langley Park-McCormick Elementary School were impacted by the active police investigation at the perimeter.
