Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Open Up About Romance
Pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have opened up about their high-profile relationship, tracing their romance from a dinner in Montreal to their red carpet appearances and supportive public outings.
The connection began in July 2025 when Perry brought her Lifetimes Tour to Montreal. During her stop, she had dinner with Trudeau, the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Two months later, the pair were photographed kissing on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. Perry recalled that meeting Trudeau shifted her perspective on romance. The 42-year-old singer explained that she had long discussed wanting an epic, legendary love with her therapist, describing her relationship with Trudeau as the missing puzzle piece that finally appeared.
The romance blossomed shortly after Perry ended her engagement to English actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a 6-year-old daughter, Daisy. Bloom, who stated on the TODAY show that there was nothing but love between him and Perry, has since moved on with Swiss model Luisa Laemmel. Bloom has maintained amicable relationships with the mothers of his children, exemplified by a family outing last September featuring Perry and Bloom’s ex-wife Miranda Kerr, mother to their 15-year-old son Flynn.
Trudeau, 54, has maintained a more reserved public stance regarding his personal life, following his legal separation from Sophie Grégoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The former prime minister shares three children with his ex-wife: sons Xavier, 19, and Hadrien, 12, and daughter Ella-Grace, 17, who attended Perry’s concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre alongside her father just two days after his initial dinner with the singer.
Despite his usual caution, Trudeau has shown visible support for his partner. He attended the Tribeca Film Festival in June to make their red carpet debut at the premiere of Perry’s concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour—Live From Paris. He also made headlines by opting to watch Perry perform during the World Cup opening ceremony ahead of a U.S. match against Paraguay, choosing to miss Canada’s opening game in the process. Addressing his absence on social media, Trudeau tweeted that supportive boyfriend duties sometimes call, though Spain ultimately won the tournament.
By the time Perry’s concert film hit theaters on September 2, Trudeau had reportedly attended 10 of her past 20 shows. Perry praised his dedication, noting that he knows the lyrics, remains supportive, and shares a mutual appreciation that she finds healing. Having concluded his premiership, Trudeau has more flexibility to manage a demanding schedule, an experience he previously discussed regarding the challenges of balancing family responsibilities with a high-profile political career in conversations with CBC News.
Describing the dynamic between them, Perry compared herself to a rainbow kite that flies high and occasionally requires an anchor to stay grounded, adding that Trudeau provides that stability while sharing her heart-centered approach to life.
