Jordanian Security Forces Arrest Three Suspects in Deadly Karak Church Attack

Jordanian security forces have arrested three suspects in connection with a deadly church shooting in the Karak area that left nine people dead and dozens injured. State television announced the arrests on Monday, following a security operation earlier that morning.

The attack took place on Friday when gunmen opened fire on a church located in the village of Hamoud within the Karak governorate. The shooting resulted in nine fatalities and left 40 others wounded.

According to the Public Security Directorate, security personnel located the three suspects early Monday morning hiding inside an abandoned house. When officers moved in, the suspects refused to surrender and opened fire on the security forces. Officers returned fire, wounding all three suspects before successfully taking them into custody.

The directorate confirmed that no security personnel were injured during the raid. Authorities also seized firearms and ammunition from the scene.

The official statement from the Public Security Directorate did not identify the suspects’ affiliation or state whether they maintained ties to any militant organization. Following the incident on Friday, Jordan’s interior minister indicated that extremists carried out the attack, though he cautioned that it was premature to determine whether the perpetrators maintained links to known domestic or foreign groups. As of Monday, no group had claimed responsibility for the shooting.
