Iowa Senate Candidate Josh Turek Outlines Platform on Wages, Housing, and Healthcare in Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Iowa Senate candidate Josh Turek brought his campaign to the Quad Cities on Thursday, addressing voters during a stop at Modern Woodmen Park to outline his primary legislative priorities.

During the Davenport rally, Turek emphasized three core pillars of his platform: raising the state minimum wage, realigning Iowa’s education system to remain competitive nationally, and restoring financial support for healthcare services.

Addressing the state’s current wage floor, Turek argued that the existing rate fails to support working households. “I’m gonna fight for a livable wage because $7.25 is not a livable wage for families,” he told supporters.

Beyond wages, Turek turned his focus toward corporate influence in essential services, pledging to target investment firms operating within critical sectors. “Second, I’m gonna go up there and fight to drive private equity outta housing and health care and nursing homes,” Turek said. He further emphasized his position on medical access, stating, “I’m gonna fight for affordable and accessible health care because I’m someone that believes that health care is a human right and you shouldn’t have to win the genetic lottery to have access to basic health care.”

The Thursday evening campaign event also featured Iowa 1st Congressional District candidate Christina Bohannan, who was in attendance to support the rally.

Meanwhile, opposing political figures maintained active campaign schedules across the state on the same day. Republican candidate Rep. Ashley Hinson addressed a crowd at a rally held by President Donald Trump in Sioux City. Additionally, Bohannan’s congressional opponent, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, focused on economic issues earlier in the day by hosting a manufacturing roundtable in Burlington, Iowa.
