German Teen Arrested in Hamburg After FBI Links Him to Indiana Girl’s Suicide

Authorities in Hamburg have arrested an 18-year-old German national accused of being the indirect perpetrator of murder and grievous bodily harm after he allegedly drove a 14-year-old girl in the United States to take her own life. The arrest, which took place on Thursday, followed a high-level investigation involving the FBI and local police in Indiana.

The suspect is allegedly linked to a disturbing online network known as “764” or “COM,” specifically a subgroup identified as the “Nefarious Maniac Kult” or “NMK.” German prosecutors stated that between September and October, the suspect, who was 17 at the time, targeted a 14-year-old girl from Indiana whom officials described as “psychologically fragile.” Using the social networking platform Discord, the suspect allegedly exerted significant influence over the victim, pressuring her to engage in escalating acts of violence against herself.

According to the investigation, the suspect coerced the teenager into cutting herself and using her own blood to write the letters “NMK” on a wall. He reportedly demanded video recordings of these acts as proof. A few days after these recordings were sent, the girl hanged herself in her bedroom. Prosecutors allege the suspect had sought a video recording of her actual death, hoping such a recording would help him secure entry into or gain higher status within the extremist group.

The case has highlighted a significant surge in what federal officials describe as nihilistic violent extremism. FBI Director Kash Patel reported a 300% increase in such cases from September 2024 to September 2025, with many involving the 764 network. While the group reportedly lacks a traditional political or religious ideology, its members focus on encouraging self-harm and violence. They frequently pressure victims to produce videos of self-inflicted injuries or child sexual abuse material to satisfy the group’s hierarchy.

The arrest was made possible through an international tip-off from the FBI Indianapolis office, which worked closely with the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Homicide Unit. Investigators in Indiana identified the suspect and provided critical evidence to German police that enabled the apprehension in Hamburg.

FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O’Malley emphasized the reach of international law enforcement in cases involving the exploitation of children. O’Malley stated that those who target children should understand there is no “safe haven” from justice, regardless of where they live or attempt to hide. The suspect remains in German custody as the legal proceedings move forward.
