Cobb County Police Pursue Red Dodge Charger Following Traffic Stop Before Atlanta Crash

A routine traffic stop in Cobb County escalated late Thursday night when a motorist fled from police, triggering a high-speed pursuit that ultimately concluded with a crash in downtown Atlanta, authorities said.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, a uniformed officer pulled over a red Dodge Charger near Windy Hill Road and Corporate Plaza Parkway at approximately 11:16 p.m. on October 22. The driver initially brought the vehicle to a halt but accelerated away at a high rate of speed as the officer approached on foot, heading south onto Interstate 75.
Officers initiated a pursuit but terminated the chase shortly after it began. As the pursuing officers exited the interstate to head back toward Cobb County, one of them discovered that the fleeing Charger had been involved in a collision at the intersection of 14th Street and Techwood Drive in Atlanta.
Authorities reported that the driver fled the wreckage on foot before law enforcement arrived. Officers from both the Atlanta Police Department and the Georgia Tech Police Department responded to the scene and conducted a search of the area, but the suspect was not located.
Investigators have identified the driver, and formal criminal charges are currently pending. The Atlanta Police Department assumed responsibility for investigating the collision because the crash site falls within city limits. Officials confirmed that no police officers sustained injuries during the incident.
