Former Walker County Deputy Arrested for Allegedly Leaking Bodycam Video and Criminal Files

A former Walker County sheriff’s deputy was arrested following an investigation into the alleged misuse of state crime databases and the unauthorized distribution of materials from active law enforcement investigations.

Amadou Diaw, 33, of LaFayette, was taken into custody on Thursday by agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and subsequently booked into the Walker County Jail. Diaw faces a multi-count indictment stemming from his alleged actions while serving with the sheriff’s office.

State authorities have formally charged Diaw with unauthorized disclosure of criminal history record information, computer theft, computer trespass, violation of oath of office, and misdemeanor obstruction.

The criminal inquiry was initiated on September 30 after leadership at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office formally requested that the GBI investigate suspicions that Diaw was improperly utilizing the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) system to pull restricted criminal history records.

As the inquiry progressed, GBI investigators determined that Diaw had illegally accessed and obtained confidential criminal history files through the database system. Furthermore, state investigators uncovered evidence indicating that Diaw had distributed body camera footage and photographs connected to active law enforcement cases.

Despite the arrests and subsequent charges, several aspects of the ongoing investigation remain undisclosed by law enforcement. State authorities have not revealed the specific cases, files, or individuals whose records were improperly accessed during the incident. Additionally, the GBI has not disclosed who ultimately received the distributed body camera footage and photographs, nor have officials confirmed a potential motive behind the unauthorized access and data sharing.

The GBI is urging anyone possessing information related to the ongoing case to assist investigators. Tips can be directed to the GBI Tip Line, submitted online through the official state portal, or sent via the mobile application.
