China Regulators Schedule Emergency Market Support Talks

Chinese financial regulators are preparing to convene a high-level meeting on Monday to examine the deployment of mechanisms aimed at supporting the nation’s capital markets, following a brutal month for domestic equities.

The People’s Bank of China plans to meet alongside the National Financial Regulatory Administration, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, and several major commercial banks, according to industry reports published on Sunday by Cailian. The discussions will center on evaluating and refining a relending program specifically designated for share buybacks and corporate stake increases.

Additional notices regarding Monday’s gathering have been distributed to select securities firms and investment funds, the 21st Century Business Herald reported. Market participants have widely interpreted the upcoming consultations as preparatory groundwork by regulators aiming to formulate fresh stabilization measures.

Any renewed state intervention would build upon a series of policy steps introduced by Beijing last month. However, those earlier initiatives have thus far failed to reverse market momentum, weighed down by persistent domestic economic weakness and growing skepticism regarding artificial intelligence sector earnings. These pressures contributed to the worst monthly performance for Chinese equities in more than a decade.

The broader market slide deepened sharply in October, driving the CSI 300 Index into a bear market after an 8.5% monthly drop and a record-setting string of 12 consecutive weekly declines.

The deepening equity downturn has unfolded alongside renewed indicators of broader economic strain. Official figures released in October showed that both China’s manufacturing and non-manufacturing purchasing managers’ indexes contracted, slipping back below the critical threshold that separates expansion from contraction.
