Week 8 Fantasy Football: Wide Receiver Start and Sit Advice
Fantasy managers facing difficult Week 8 lineup decisions can look past elite consensus options to optimize their rosters, focusing on fringe players and favorable defensive matchups as the 2026 NFL season reaches its midpoint.
Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets earns the Start of the Week designation as he prepares to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Wilson has endured two straight duds and three quiet outings over the last month alongside the rapid ascent of rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr., prompting understandable anxiety among fantasy managers. However, after recent difficult tests against Christian Gonzalez and a formidable Miami secondary, Wilson faces a Raiders defense that has surrendered double-digit fantasy points to six wideouts over its last three games and yielded a league-high 11 touchdowns to the position.
Several other wide receivers make compelling cases for starting lineups in Week 8. Parker Washington of the Jacksonville Jaguars stands out as one of just six wide receivers maintaining a 35 percent air yards share and an average of 2.5 yards per route run, having scored double-digit fantasy points in five of six games heading into a matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Stefon Diggs of the Washington Commanders already boasts a high floor with at least four catches and six targets in every contest, but his ceiling climbs considerably with Terry McLaurin sidelined for the season, placing him firmly in WR2 range against the Philadelphia Eagles. Meanwhile, Tre Tucker of the Las Vegas Raiders has established a productive connection with Kirk Cousins, pulling down 10 catches for 200 yards and three touchdowns on 19 targets over the past two weeks to remain an efficient option even against the New York Jets.
Conversely, Rome Odunze of the Chicago Bears takes the Sit of the Week label into a difficult road matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Odunze has delivered a frustratingly consistent string of roughly seven fantasy points each week, reaching double digits just once all season with 15.4 points in Week 4 while failing to score a touchdown in 2026. That limited ceiling faces a severe test against a Seattle secondary that has allowed the fewest fantasy points per game to wide receivers, yielding a league-low 91.7 receiving yards per game and the lowest explosive catch rate at 10.9 percent.
Other notable wide receivers are best left on benches or waiver wires this week. Jameson Williams of the Detroit Lions faces a stiff test against an undefeated Minnesota Vikings defense that has surrendered a league-low 19.3 fantasy points per game to wideouts since Week 2, discounting an opening-week exception against Green Bay. Xavier Worthy of the Kansas City Chiefs is similarly risky against a staunch Denver Broncos defense, having failed to clear 25 receiving yards in every game this season outside of a pair of productive outings around the Week 5 bye. Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos rounds out the sit recommendations as he prepares to face the Kansas City Chiefs, weighed down by an abysmal 48.5 percent catch rate, an average of just 10.5 yards per reception, and zero double-digit fantasy performances.
