Keyshawn Johnson Calls for Lincoln Riley’s Ouster After USC’s Blowout Loss to Wisconsin

The pressure surrounding USC head coach Lincoln Riley has reached a fever pitch following a lopsided road loss to the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday night. The defeat has prompted one of the program’s most prominent alumni, former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, to publicly demand a coaching change, labeling the current state of the Trojans a “f—ing joke.”
In a scathing video response lasting nearly three minutes, Johnson expressed disbelief at the manner in which the Trojans were defeated in Madison. USC suffered a 24-7 loss that saw the offense effectively disappear after the second quarter. Johnson’s critique was blunt, suggesting that the time for patience with the Riley era has expired.
“Enough is enough,” Johnson said in the video, noting that the performance was so poor he could only “sit here and laugh.” He emphasized that the Trojans did not merely lose a close contest but were essentially “run out of the building” by a Wisconsin team that controlled the tempo and the trenches.
Statistical data from the game paints a grim picture of the Trojans’ offensive stagnation. Quarterback Jayden Maiava struggled under constant duress, completing 31 of 50 passes for 258 yards. However, the air attack was neutralized by two interceptions and a failure to find the end zone after halftime. The offensive line was frequently overwhelmed, surrendering five sacks and failing to create any space for a ground game that finished the night with a staggering -17 total rushing yards—the team’s worst output of the season. Running back King Miller was limited to just eight yards on 11 carries as the Badgers’ defense swarmed the backfield.
Johnson pointedly contrasted USC’s struggles with the success seen at other programs under new leadership. He specifically noted the rapid ascent of teams like UCLA, which has reached a 7-0 record with high-profile wins under first-year head coach Bob Chesney, as evidence that a quick turnaround is possible with the right leadership.
In a moment of high irony, Johnson also extended his congratulations to the man who had just defeated his alma mater. He praised Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell and his staff for their preparation and execution, even suggesting that the university should look at coaches of Fickell’s caliber to lead the Trojans in the future.
Despite stating that he respects Riley personally, Johnson insisted that a “divorce” between the coach and the university is now necessary for the program to move forward. He called upon USC’s administration, financial boosters, and decision-makers to recognize the gravity of the situation and take action, regardless of the difficulty involved.
Any move to part ways with Riley would come with a massive financial hurdle. Estimates suggest that USC would be required to pay a buyout of approximately $70 million to terminate Riley’s contract. Whether the university’s boosters are willing to facilitate such a significant payout remains the central question as the Trojans face an uncertain future in the wake of their latest disaster on the field.
