Two Bicyclists Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver During Pre-Halloween Ride in San Bernardino County

Two people were killed and two others sustained injuries when an alleged drunk driver crashed into a group of bicyclists participating in a late-night pre-Halloween ride in San Bernardino County, according to the Montclair Police Department.

The incident unfolded at approximately 10:39 p.m. on Saturday as a group of roughly 30 cyclists traveled eastbound along Kingsley Street. Authorities stated that a vehicle heading in the opposite direction veered into the group, striking multiple riders.

First responders pronounced one bicyclist dead at the location of the collision. A second rider succumbed to injuries later after being transported to a hospital.

Of the remaining two victims, one remained hospitalized in stable condition, while the fourth sustained a minor head laceration and declined further medical evaluation.

Following the collision, the motorist fled the scene on foot or by vehicle. However, local police—aided by witness accounts and descriptions—quickly tracked the suspect to his residence situated near the crash site.

Officers arrested 38-year-old Valentin Alberto Rodriguez in connection with the incident. He faces multiple serious charges, including driving under the influence resulting in injury or death, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter, alongside additional related offenses.

Authorities have withheld the identities of the victims pending notification of next of kin. Police also clarified that the cycling excursion was a self-organized gathering of riders and had no official sponsorship or affiliation with the city of Montclair.
