Trump Administration to Grant Visa to Flavio Bolsonaro Amid Brazilian Corruption Investigation

The Trump administration is moving forward with plans to grant a visa to Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. The decision comes during a period of political transition following an election loss and coincides with an intensifying federal investigation in Brazil that links the younger Bolsonaro to a disgraced banker and a sophisticated money laundering operation.
The investigation into Flavio Bolsonaro stems from a significant federal probe into the unauthorized deduction of membership fees from pension payments. This broader operation, which authorities launched in April 2025, targeted associations suspected of illegally siphoning funds from benefits managed by Brazil’s social security agency. As the inquiry expanded, investigators began to uncover evidence of financial irregularities that pointed toward the senator and his associates.
At the center of the controversy is Bolsonaro’s relationship with a banker identified as Tomaz, who is currently under scrutiny for his alleged role in a corruption scheme. Federal investigators allege that Bolsonaro raised millions of dollars from Tomaz to finance a biopic about the life of his father, the former president. While the production of the film was the stated purpose of the funds, authorities are examining whether the transactions were part of a larger effort to disguise the origins of the capital.
Evidence surfaced earlier this year suggesting a deep financial connection between the senator and Tomaz’s business interests. Police findings indicate that Flavio Bolsonaro held “master user” access to bank accounts belonging to Alcazar Holdings, a company owned by Tomaz. This level of access typically allows a user to monitor and manage all transactions within an account. According to internal records, an employee working for Tomaz contacted the bank in May 2025 to formally request that Bolsonaro’s access to these accounts be terminated.
The scope of the probe has also extended to digital finance, with investigators examining suspected money laundering conducted through various betting platforms. Authorities are looking into how these platforms may have been used to facilitate financial transactions linked to Tomaz and his associates.
Both Flavio Bolsonaro and Tomaz have denied any wrongdoing. The senator has consistently maintained that he does not hold joint accounts or maintain any direct financial ties with the banker. For his part, Tomaz has denied any involvement in illegal activity. Despite these denials, the proximity of the visa approval to the uncovering of the Alcazar Holdings access records has drawn significant attention to the diplomatic and legal implications of the Trump administration’s decision.
