Roma Hosts Cagliari as Serie A Standings Tighten at the Top

The Italian Serie A campaign has reached a critical juncture for both AS Roma and Cagliari, as the latest league standings reveal a stark contrast in momentum between the two sides. Roma enters their upcoming fixture as one of the few remaining unbeaten teams in the division, currently occupying third place with 21 points. Through nine matches, Roma has secured six victories and three draws, bolstered by a potent offense that has found the back of the net 21 times while conceding only seven goals.
In contrast, Cagliari arrives at this stage of the season in ninth place, having earned 13 points from their first nine outings. While their overall record of four wins, one draw, and four losses remains competitive, their recent form suggests a troubling trend. After a strong run that included three consecutive wins, Cagliari has struggled in their most recent appearances, recording a draw followed by two straight losses. With only seven goals scored and 11 conceded, the visitors will face a significant challenge against Roma’s disciplined defensive unit, which currently boasts a +14 goal difference.
The battle at the top of the table remains congested. Lazio currently leads the league with 25 points from nine games, having dropped points only once in a draw. Inter Milan sits narrowly ahead of Roma in second place with 22 points from eight matches. Like Roma, Inter remains unbeaten, though they have played one fewer game than the league leaders.
Further down the standings, the struggle for mid-table stability continues. Como and AC Milan are currently tied with 18 points each, though Como has played nine matches to Milan’s eight. Frosinone, Juventus, and Torino are also locked in a tight race, all sitting on 14 points.
At the bottom of the table, the situation is increasingly dire for several clubs. Venezia currently occupies the 20th position with only three points from eight games, having suffered seven losses. Parma, Fiorentina, and Udinese are slightly better off with four points each, though Udinese’s current form is particularly concerning; the club has suffered six consecutive defeats, leaving them with the second-worst goal difference in the league at -9.
