Tech Stocks Surge as Anthropic IPO and Broadcom Financing Fuel AI Optimism

Technology shares led the broader markets higher on Tuesday as a resurgence in artificial intelligence enthusiasm and a retreat in energy costs provided a tailwind for investors. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite outperformed other major averages, gaining 1.18% to finish the session at 26,477.81, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.6% to close at 7,722.60. The Dow Jones Industrial Average remained nearly flat, adding just 15.99 points, or 0.03%, to settle at 52,377.57.

The primary catalyst for the day’s rally was a significant development in the semiconductor and AI infrastructure space. Shares of Broadcom climbed 4% following news that a consortium of major financial institutions—including Bank of America, Citi, and Morgan Stanley—alongside private equity giant Blackstone, has finalized $63 billion in financing. This massive capital injection is earmarked for Anthropic to purchase Broadcom’s specialized technology, a move that underscores the continued demand for high-end hardware capable of powering generative AI models.

Sentiment was further bolstered by Anthropic’s formal filing to go public on the Nasdaq. The anticipated listing represents another landmark initial public offering for 2026, trailing only the blockbuster June debut of SpaceX. The news sent ripples through the semiconductor sector, with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) gaining 5% and Micron Technology rising nearly 3% as traders bet on a sustained period of high capital expenditure in data center technology.

Market participants have been navigating a period of uncertainty regarding the longevity of the AI-driven bull market. Jed Ellerbroek, a portfolio manager at Argent Capital Management, noted that the market has entered a phase of periodic interludes where concerns over AI spending give way to renewed buying. He described the current shift as a binary move, suggesting that after a two-week lull, the industry’s “switch has been flipped up again,” driven by high conviction among data center operators to expand capacity.

Beyond the technology sector, a decline in crude oil prices provided broader economic relief. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures dropped 1.83% to settle at $99.90 per barrel, while the global benchmark Brent crude fell 1.67% to $113.88. The downward move in energy followed reports that Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and national security official Mohsen Rezaei have been discussing potential conditions for ending regional conflicts. The prospect of de-escalation in the Middle East has calmed fears of supply disruptions that had kept prices elevated throughout the autumn.

On the corporate earnings front, individual stock performance was dictated by third-quarter results and forward-looking guidance. JetBlue shares soared 19% despite the airline reporting a larger-than-anticipated loss for the third quarter. Investors overlooked the immediate deficit in favor of management’s forecast for margin expansion in the fourth quarter. Similarly, UPS shares rose more than 5% after the delivery firm posted quarterly results that exceeded analyst expectations, signaling resilience in consumer logistics.

The day’s gains occurred as the Federal Reserve launched its two-day policy meeting, with a formal interest rate decision expected Wednesday afternoon. While the central bank is widely expected to keep rates at their current levels, the meeting is being closely watched for signals regarding a potential hike in December. Analysts noted that the proximity of the U.S. midterm elections, scheduled for next week, may result in a more restrained communication strategy from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh.

Ellerbroek characterized the current Fed session as a rare “non-event” in terms of immediate surprises, largely due to the political calendar. However, he cautioned that the subsequent meeting in December could become a “live wire” for markets as the central bank navigates post-election economic data and persistent volatility in capital markets.
