Kirk Herbstreit Names Georgia as National Title Favorite

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit has identified the Georgia Bulldogs as his frontrunner to claim the national championship, pointing to their potential to rebound following an early stumble.

Speaking during ESPN’s College GameDay, Herbstreit addressed the Bulldogs’ status ahead of their matchup against the Florida Gators. Georgia enters the game following a tight 27-24 defeat against Auburn, a contest defined by three uncharacteristic turnovers from quarterback Gunner Stockton.

“I’m saying Georgia even though they’re coming off of a loss,” Herbstreit stated on the broadcast. “I think that loss, like Coach has said in the past of some of his Alabama teams, sometimes we needed a loss to kind of get us right. They lose in a close game, three turnovers, uncharacteristic from Gunner Stockton, two weeks to get ready for Florida. I just think if we had to pick one team right now, I think this team could be the best team in the country right now.”

Herbstreit expressed confidence that Stockton would recover from his performance against Auburn during the two-week preparation window leading up to the Florida game.

To secure a championship run, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart emphasized the necessity of leaning heavily on the team’s rushing attack, specifically highlighting running back Jadan Baugh. According to comments reported by Sports Illustrated, Smart praised the running back’s dynamic abilities in open space.

“They’ve got a great rushing attack, and they’ve got a great back to do it with,” Smart said. “So when you can run the ball and know that your back’s going to make people miss in the open field or break tackles by running through them, over them around them, it certainly gives you the confidence to give him touches and he’s been incredible.”
