Jay-Z Named as Headliner for the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show

After years of shaping the spectacle from behind the scenes, rap mogul and 25-time Grammy winner Jay-Z is stepping into the spotlight as the headliner for the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show. The National Football League and Apple Music announced the milestone on social media during Monday night’s game, confirming earlier industry reporting from Puck.

The announcement video featured a black-and-white clip of Jay-Z sitting in the stands with a live goat on his lap, accompanied by the opening line of his song “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)”: “Allow me to reintroduce ourselves.”

Through his entertainment company, Roc Nation, Jay-Z has partnered with the NFL to produce the halftime show since 2019, helping curate performances for several previous games. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell noted that when the league first reached an agreement with Roc Nation, he made a single request that the artist eventually take the stage himself.

“For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” Goodell said in a statement. “When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn’t be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage.”

Super Bowl 61 is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game and its halftime performance will be broadcast across ESPN, ABC, Disney+, and mobile devices via NFL+.

The headlining announcement arrives as Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, wraps up his expansive “30 Tour,” which marked the 30th anniversary of his debut studio album, “Reasonable Doubt.” The tour included international and domestic stops in cities such as Paris, London, and his hometown of New York City, concluding with final performances at SoFi Stadium.

“From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”

During his recent tour, Jay-Z welcomed numerous guest performers, including his wife, global superstar Beyoncé. It remains unconfirmed whether Beyoncé or any of his other frequent collaborators will make cameo appearances during the upcoming Super Bowl performance. While many past headliners regularly invite major guest stars, others—such as The Weeknd and Rihanna—have chosen to perform entirely solo.

Recent halftime performances have achieved significant critical and industry acclaim. Last year’s broadcast featured Bad Bunny as the headliner, alongside guest appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. That production subsequently won seven Creative Arts Emmys, making it the most-awarded halftime show in history and earning Bad Bunny his first Emmy while adding a third to Jay-Z’s accolades as a producer. Kendrick Lamar, who headlined the 2025 show, also collected an Emmy for his performance.

Apple’s Vice President of Music and International Content, Oliver Schusser, expressed high expectations for the upcoming production, emphasizing the artist’s enduring influence on the industry. “Fans can expect an incredible show,” Schusser said, noting that Jay-Z’s “impact on global music culture is as profound as it is undeniable.”
