Early iPhone Duo Owners Report Inner Display Cracks as Apple Confirms Defect

Owners of Apple’s newly launched foldable smartphone have begun reporting screen cracks and display malfunctions on social media platforms shortly after the device went on global sale. The handset, marketed as the iPhone Duo, marks Apple’s entry into the foldable device market and retails starting at $1,999, or £1,499.
Apple has acknowledged the reports, confirming that a small number of units have experienced an issue with the inner display. In an official statement, the company advised affected customers to seek assistance through AppleCare. “We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement,” the company stated.
Reports of the hardware issue began circulating on platforms like Reddit following the device’s worldwide release. Among the accounts, a user in Australia detailed an incident where their handset malfunctioned within six hours of purchase. According to the user, a distinct sensation was felt near the internal hinge underneath the screen while opening the device for a friend, followed by an audible crack and a display failure marked by a vertical white strip of light.
That customer reported that their local retail store provided an immediate replacement. A separate user in Australia also documented hearing a similar cracking sound leading to an identical screen malfunction. Additional reports regarding display issues among early buyers in the United States and India have also surfaced.
Industry observers note that the volume of reported incidents remains low, making it difficult to determine whether the defects point to a widespread structural flaw in the hardware. Apple maintains that the affected units represent a small proportion of overall sales and indicated that the vast majority of early feedback has been positive.
Demand for the iPhone Duo has been described by the manufacturer as extraordinary. The high-profile launch is the first major product rollout under Chief Executive John Ternus, who assumed leadership of the company in September following the departure of Tim Cook.
