Investigators Pursue Advanced DNA Testing in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance

The multi-agency task force investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is actively collaborating with laboratory scientists to pursue advanced DNA analysis, according to an update issued Friday night by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators traveled to Florida earlier this month to consult directly with laboratory specialists and explore potential methods for advancing the forensic investigation. While law enforcement officials declined to provide additional details when contacted Friday, the department confirmed on social media that ongoing discussions with various partners continue as part of the active inquiry.

Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of television anchor Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her residence in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. Her disappearance has generated widespread national attention and an extensive investigative response.
Investigators have treated the case as a suspected kidnapping after discovering drops of blood outside the front door of her home. In the weeks following the incident, authorities released surveillance footage capturing a masked individual tampering with the doorbell camera on the night she vanished. The footage depicts a suspect wearing a ski mask, gloves, and a backpack.

Throughout the investigation, Guthrie’s family members have utilized public statements and social media appeals to urge anyone with relevant information to come forward. Investigators have also examined multiple potential ransom communications, including one note that authorities officially deemed non-credible last month.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department reiterated its appeal for public assistance, emphasizing that no tip is too small. Individuals with potential information are encouraged to contact local crime stoppers at 88-CRIME or reach out directly to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
