Four undefeated FBS college football teams remain heading into Week 8 of the 2026 season

As the 2026 college football season reaches Week 8, only four undefeated teams remain standing out of the 136 Football Bowl Subdivision programs that began the year with hopes of a perfect campaign. The narrowing field follows a turbulent stretch of play, recalling recent history when Indiana capped a 16-0 run to claim the College Football Playoff title last season, mirroring Michigan’s flawless run in 2023.

At the pinnacle of the AP Top 25 Poll sits No. 1 Miami (Fla.) with a 6-0 record. The Hurricanes secured their spot at the top for the first time since 2002 after surviving their most demanding test of the year, a tense double-overtime victory against unranked rival Florida State.

No. 2 BYU also carries a 6-0 mark into the eighth week of the schedule. The Cougars maintained their unblemished record following a last-minute thriller against then-No. 2 Notre Dame in a battle of undefeated squads. Having concluded their nonconference slate for the year, BYU will navigate Big 12 conference opponents for the remainder of the regular season after finishing as the conference runner-up a season ago.

Further down the rankings, No. 9 UCLA stands at 6-0 after securing a statement victory by defeating Oregon in Eugene for the first time since 2004. The Bruins face a largely manageable path forward, with only one remaining matchup against a ranked opponent awaiting them in a regular-season finale against crosstown rival Southern California.

Rounding out the quartet of unbeaten programs is No. 10 Utah, which also holds a 6-0 record. The Utes encountered a narrow escape in their latest outing, defeating Colorado by just three points. That result marked a sharp departure from their previous performances, having won all prior games this season by margins of no fewer than 14 points. Utah’s upcoming schedule features notable matchups against Houston and BYU.
