Five-Star Forward Zion Green Commits to Alabama Basketball

The Alabama men’s basketball program secured another major recruiting victory on Saturday when five-star forward Zion Green announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide. Green stands as Alabama’s second top-25 commitment for the 2027 class, bolstering coach Nate Oats’ ongoing efforts to attract elite national talent to Tuscaloosa.
Green narrowed his final list of choices to Alabama, Ole Miss, Kansas, and Oklahoma before making his decision. The 6-foot-9 Philadelphia native, who played his senior season at AZ Compass Prep in Arizona, received an offer from the Crimson Tide this spring and followed up with an official visit to campus in September.
Ranked No. 16 in the SC Next 100, Green has drawn attention for his high upside and skill level despite a lanky frame. Analytics from Cerebro indicate he put on an impressive shooting display at the Border League, where he shot 73 percent overall and 40 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

Green praised the program’s culture and tactical approach under Oats, pointing to the combination of discipline and personal connection within the coaching staff. When I attended practice, they were intense, Green noted, adding that Oats holds all of his players accountable while also being funny and liking to joke around off the court.
The forward also emphasized that the team’s tactical philosophy heavily influenced his choice. Their play style fits my game, Green said, noting that the squad operates at an up-tempo pace and has a proven track record of developing players with similar physical profiles and skill sets.
With this latest addition, Green joins Georgia shooting guard Chase Lumpkin, who is ranked No. 23 by ESPN, as the second five-star prospect in Alabama’s recruiting class. Oats has now secured six five-star recruits since taking over the helm as the Crimson Tide’s head coach in 2019.
