Fantasy Football Week 8 Quarterback Outlook: Prescott and Murray Surge as Byes Tighten Rosters

The eighth week of the fantasy football season introduces a significant logistical hurdle for managers as the league enters its third week of scheduled byes. Four teams—the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Texans—are idle, forcing a substantial number of starting lineups to seek replacements. The absences are notable, as high-performing assets such as Brock Purdy and C.J. Stroud will be unavailable, alongside Tyler Shough and J.J. McCarthy.

This week’s landscape is defined by significant movement among established starters and a few emerging streaming options dictated by favorable matchups. Topping the rankings for Week 8 is Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, who remains the premier play at the position as he prepares to face off against Baltimore. Close behind is Drake Maye, currently ranked second, as his New England squad travels to Miami in what is viewed as a high-upside opportunity.

Lamar Jackson rounds out the top three for his road matchup against Buffalo. The middle of the top tier sees a notable rise for Dak Prescott, who moved up to the fourth spot ahead of a home game against Arizona. Prescott’s upward trajectory reflects his increasing reliability and the favorable conditions of the upcoming contest. Similarly, Kyler Murray is climbing the ranks as he leads Minnesota into Detroit for a critical NFC North battle, securing the ninth spot on the list.

While some quarterbacks are trending upward, the Week 8 rankings reflect a decline in value for two AFC West rivals. Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City and Bo Nix of Denver have both seen their stock fall heading into their head-to-head clash in Denver. This divisional battle is hampered by difficult matchups for both signal-callers, resulting in Mahomes sliding to the 14th spot and Nix dropping to 25th.

For managers in deeper leagues or those looking for streaming options, the rankings highlight several mid-tier plays with potential. Joe Burrow (Cincinnati) and Jayden Daniels (Washington) hold the fifth and sixth spots respectively, facing Tennessee and Philadelphia. Trevor Lawrence and Jordan Love also remain in the top ten, with Lawrence hosting Indianapolis and Love taking Green Bay into a matchup against Carolina.

Jacoby Brissett rounds out the top ten as he leads Arizona into Dallas. The second half of the rankings features several younger starters and depth options. Caleb Williams (Chicago) is positioned at 11th for a road game against Seattle, while Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford occupy the 12th and 13th slots. Further down the list, Bryce Young (15th) and Kirk Cousins (16th) provide options for managers desperate for production in the wake of the bye week.

The lower tier of this week’s rankings features several backups and developing prospects. Michael Penix Jr. is ranked 20th for Atlanta’s trip to Tampa Bay, while Malik Willis sits at 21st for Miami’s home game against New England. The tail end of the list includes players like Daniel Jones, now starting for Indianapolis, and Cam Ward, who is ranked 28th as Tennessee prepares to face Cincinnati.

With four major offenses out of the rotation, managers are advised to monitor late-week injury reports closely. These rankings serve as a baseline for the current Week 8 landscape, but active updates are expected as team health statuses become clearer toward the weekend.
